Vahana training stick (carrot stick) – the lightest on the market
The Vahana Pro communication stick is as lightweight as possible while retaining the weight and rigidity needed to act as a natural extension of your arm.
The materials used are chosen to provide both lightness and durability. High-performance silicone advantageously replaces leather and plastic for the handle and tip of the stick. For the stick we used a stronger fiberglass rod that allowed us to shave off weight too.
The vahana Pro horsemanship stick allows us to work more and walk longer without carrying needless weight
Why refer to it as a communication stick?
The purpose of the communication stick is to act as an extension of your arm, with clarity and precision.

replaceable parts
We developed our tip in silicon to achieve the ideal weight and strength, Silicone is resistant to water and temperature variations. It is durable, strong and soft to the touch.
Both the tip of the stick and the handle are replaceable.

What is a training stick used for?
A true extension of the arm, it allows you to indicate to the horse:
-
- to mobilise specific parts of its body: the forehand, the hindquarters
- the gaits: inter and intra-gait variations, halt and rein-back
- steering: lateral movements, aspiration
- energy: mobilisation when the human puts energy into their body, or relaxation and stillness when the human handles the stick with a neutral and relaxed intention in their body
The stick is also used to desensitize the horse.
-
- use the stick to stroke the horse on all parts of its body
- a string is attached to it and sent fluidly over the horse
- with a flag attached we work on the ON / OFF modes
How tu use the training stick?
The aim is not to make the horse run away. The aim is to communicate.
We work in progressive phases: lift slowly, direct precisely and remove quickly.
If we translate human codes into a language learned by the horse, the gestures are generally coded as follows:
-
- Stick in front of the horse = slow down / stop (depending on intention and energy)
- Stick behind the horse = go for it / lengthen your stride / move up a gear
- Stick directed at a part of the body = push your shoulders/push your whole body/push your hindquarters/come towards me
- Caressing stick = everything's fine, relax
Vahana Pro stick specifications
- Strong, rigid fiberglass rod
- Non-slip handle in high-quality silicone for a secure grip in all seasons
- Silicone tip on which to tie a string or flag
Why use a communication stick rather than a lunge whip?
- Shorter and stiffer than a traditional whip, it doesn't bend during your actions, bringing precision to your indications.
- Its weight allows you to respect the progression of phases in your applications.
Choosing the length: 1m or 1m20 (47")?
The horsemanship standard length is considered to be 1m20 based on limb sizes of a horse. In practice, what matters is your ease with the equipment, so that your movements are precise. For children or smaller adults who find the 1m20 stick cumbersome, the 1m stick will be a perfect fit.
